The task was to create a digital experiences to coincide with the re-opening of the JBBDCo Distillery Experience in Sept 2021. We did this by helping users to learn more about what they like through a series of simple questions. In return, they were offered a bourbon recommendation, path to purchase, and a shareable result to bond with seasoned whiskey drinkers and newbies alike.

The Strategy

 

Expand exploration. Be a valuable guide for bourbon discovery. We want people to feel less intimidated with the options in front of them.

Encourage bonds. Inspire each other’s passions in bourbon through sharing. Give users interesting ways of connecting with each other.

Develop individual palates. Help users understand that every bourbon is an opportunity to learn something new from categorical differences to bottle nuances.

Make bourbon approachable. Users should feel free to be themselves rather than adhere to someone else’s rules.

The quiz experience was the center of the larger project, it was important that the design and interactions pulled the user in and encouraged them to keep going. We eventually leaned in on Beam’s illustration style as a catalyst for the visual look and feel.
